As spring has sprung (well sort of!) we naturally start to think of sunnier, warmer days and most of us (I hope) will be looking to protect our skin from sun damage.
But…..did you know that it is absolutely fundamental for us to protect our skin at all times and throughout the winter. Crazy right? Well, photooxidative stress occurs around us all the time. Not just from sunlight, but pollution, ozone, infrared, smoking and even the blue light from our devices. Yep, our phones, tablets and computers can all be damaging our skin.
This is why I always where an SPF (with at least factor 30) with blue light filter on a daily basis and why I advise all my patients (and you reading this) to do the same.
What else can you do to help the damage? Well, the minimum skin care recommended in addition to daily SPF is an antioxidant, such as a Vitamin C serum and DNA repair enzyme. But, if you want to really get results from your skin care, then add in a retinol and alpha-hydroxyacid, these help to exfoliate dead skin cells, even wrinkles and skin tone and hydrate your skin from within. IF you really want to optimise your skin health then add in peptides and growth factors too. You’ll be amazed at how effective skin care can be.
The Mayoral skin pyramid from the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology.

If you’re like me, busy and always rushing, then a simple skin care routine is a must. So, my go to skin products are:
Cleanse and tone with Neauvia newborn skin and wake up skin, which are packed full of antioxidants, DNA repair enzymes and retinol.
Vitamin C – Neauvia C shot which also contains lactic acid (an alphahydroxy acid)
Neauvia advanced cream which contains growth factors and peptides
So.. with just 4 products, which won’t break the bank, I can cover all aspects of the skin pyramid. Not forgetting my SPF, my current favourite is Synergy 6 which I pop on just before leaving the house.
All these products are available at The Castle Clinic
